Repetier Host can not see printer
« on: August 19, 2013, 10:13:00 PM »
I'm running Mac OS 10.6.8. I installed FTDI USB Serial Driver 2.2.18, which indicated successful install, then I rebooted.

I connected my printer to the USB and plugged it in. The two extruder fans are running.

When I run Repetier Host, and choose printer settings, the only choices are Virtual Printer, Bluetooth-PDA-Sync, Bluetooth-Modem, and None.

This looks like the same symptoms as reported in http://forum.bukobot.com/index.php?topic=2668.msg3360#msg3360 however I have installed the FDTI driver.

Any suggestions for what to try next?

The mini USB cable supplied with the printer is defective. When I tried a different cable, Repetier Host was able to connect to usbserial-DA005U6X. Also, a blue LED on the board now lights (it did not light before).

After I connect to the printer, the Repetier Host footer displays the following status:

5 commands waiting       406 FPS    Unknown printer firm...  Waiting for temperature

Any suggestions regarding how to proceed?

Did you configure the printer settings?

For me (and I did use a higher quality USB cable) it connected and communicated immediately after I set the printer settings.
That center text at the bottom should say "Marlin", and the log should show something like:

Just after that, the temperature Curve should become active and you'd be ready to print/test.

(don't forget to test the movement directions, since you may have to reverse some connections)

OK, I did have FTDI drivers installed from previous Arduino work.

And I configured the printer settings for usbserial-DB00603P  (port may vary depending on your machine/system config)

and all the settings from http://www.bukobot.com/host-slicing-settings

Thank you ccox for your suggestions.

I have attempted to configure the printer settings, but I'm stuck.

I was able to install the slic3r profiles. Some of the Repetier-Host Settings don't match the http://bukobot.com/host-slicing-settings web page, perhaps because of updates to Repetier Host.

Even after doing this, I still get the unknown firmware status message.

OK, I pressed the green reset button on the printer, and now the printer reports idle, 225 FPS Marlin, Extruder 21.80 degrees C.

So, I'm making progress.
