Birdstruder vs Bukostruder
« on: November 29, 2012, 10:08:04 AM »
Hi Diego,

Could you tell us about the Birdstruder & Bukostruder? Does one design replace the other? Do they differ just in the design of the cold end or have a different hot end as well?

Rob.

Diego

The "Birdstruder" used in the beginning of production was a mashup between http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:13628 and the mount of the Budaschnozzle http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:24584. It works fine but I really wasn't super happy with it, so I made a new design from scratch. The new "Bukostruder" is a design change I did recently that would still work with a budaschnozzle (with original printed mounting plate) or bukoshnozzle.

The Bukostruder uses less parts, a smaller bearing, has better access to drive gear area (to see what's going on and clean out stuff), lower profile to gain some height, quicker for filament releasing, access to mounting bolts without removing motor, uses the mounting bolts for the lever (for stronger hinging), and more efficient to printout. The design files will be post of course (when I clean it up a bit) if anyone wants to switch from the older one.

Thanks for the excellent explanation (and photos) Diego. Looks like some really good improvements with the Bukostruder there!
