Title: Best extruder temp settings for a specific filament
Post by: jimdaway on November 13, 2013, 11:58:50 AM
Hi All;

I've ordered some 3.0mm filament (ABS and PLA) from http://www.a2aprinter.ca/index.php?route=common/home (http://www.a2aprinter.ca/index.php?route=common/home) up here in Ontario, Canada, specifically the http://www.a2aprinter.ca/index.php?route=product/product&path=63&product_id=101 (http://www.a2aprinter.ca/index.php?route=product/product&path=63&product_id=101).

I'm wondering how I would go about (other than trial and error - which I do very well!! The error part...) determining the best extruder temperature.

Any advice sure would be appreciated. Thanks!

Unfortunately, suppliers don't give much information about what they're selling (which is what I'm trying to change with the UFID project, https://plus.google.com/communities/107859862288161234107), but 240C works for most ABS in our Spitfire extruders. You probably won't want to go more than 10C either direction from there. There's more variability in PLA, but 210C is usually good.

Thanks for the advice.

That project sounds amazing and very worthwhile.

Thanks for the monstrous efforts you continue to pour into the evolving and amazing avenue of manufacturing.

ABS filament should be set at approximately 80

80 what? That number doesn't make sense in any units I can think of.

Agreed. This doesn't make sense at all. Maybe it was a typo.
